Special Benches

Last year, we prepared a project, whose long-term goal is to create a network of new pleasant places in Trenčín. The distinctive outcome of the project are Special Benches.

A bench as a pleasant public place to meet, connect, talk, rest, observe or make up. Benches dedicated to important personalities as a journey into the past and interesting history. The citizens can join in by contributing to the foundation fund Benches, buying one of the dedicated benches, or by an original idea for a bench.

In September, we started with a bench of Sigismund of Luxemburg, which is a thank you to the king, who awarded Trenčín the privileges of a free royal town. Other two are twins dedicated to Vojtech Zamarovský, who was born in Trenčín and stayed proud of his birth town through all of his life. He was a famous writer of nonfiction on the history of ancient civilizations. One of these benches is situated next to Museum of Zamarovský in Zamarovce. The fourth bench is a small artwork dedicated to a well-known photographer Mária Urbasiówne-Holoubková, situated in front of her former studio on Farská Street. The last bench is dedicated to Miloš Alexander Bazovský and is situated on Palackého Street in front of the Gallery of M. A. Bazovský in Trenčín. Authors of these imaginative benches are Július Bruna, Ján Hubinský and Juraj Oravec.
